Hand Colored Bird Print

Watercolor of Humming Bird

Mammals from Animate Creation by J. G. Wood, 1885

The following are chromolithographed plates published by Salmar Hess in New York, and printed by L. Prang & Co., probably the best-known printer of chromolithographs in the United States.  The images are about 7.5 x 5 inches [19 x 13 cm], mounted on sheets 12.5 x 9 inch [31.5 x 23 cm].  Prices as noted.  All are in excellent condition.  We have many more from this series - please inquire as to particular needs.

Original Fish and Animal Prints from the Pacific Railroad Survey of 1855

The following are from the survey for the US Pacific Railroad, in particular from the report by Lieutenant Henry L Abbot, on the routes in Oregon and California explored by parties under the command of Lieutenant R. S. Williamson, in 1855 (from the Sacramento Valley to the Columbia River).  All are clean, in very good or better condition, with any defects noted.  Images are 7 x 10' or 7 x 9 inches on sheets 8.5 x 11.5 inches, or reverse.  The fish and mammals are all from drawings by  J. H. Richard, and are finely engraved.

Colored Botanical Plates from The Auricula, its History and Character, by C. Oscar Moreton

The following are large fine plates from this fine production of the Ariel Press, London, 1964, on sheets approximately 11.5 inches wide by 16 inches high, each with a printed title at the bottom. The plates are reproduced from the paintings of Rory McEwen, both botanically accurate and artistically graceful. The plates were too large to fit on completely on our scanner, so only the middle portions are shown below. The plates are clean and fine and any discoloration shown is due to the scanner. Prices are US$10 each for one, but US$8 each if both are ordered at the same time.  Usual cost for shipping.

Hand Colored Botanical Prints by Mrs. Withers

The following are hand colored engravings from the book, The Gardener's Assistant by Robert Thompson, published by Blackie and Son, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, in 1859.  All of the following are from the paintings by Mrs. Withers, who was botanical artist to Queen Adelaide and is mentioned in Sitwell's Fine Flower Books and Blunt's Art of Botanical Illustration. She contributed to some of the best botanical works of the period including Bateman's Orchids, Pomological Magazine, Maund's Botanist, etc, and was praised by her contemporaries including Loudon. The prints are on paper 9.75 x 6.5 inches [25 x 16 cm].  They are in very good condition with some light soiling in some margins.
